Waterloo and the South Bank

Covent Garden

The South Bank around Waterloo is one of the greatest centres for art in the world, particularly for the performing arts. Appropriately for the site of the 1951 Festival of Britain, there are many other attractions, including a fairground, street performers, a food market, restaurants, cafés, the starting point of the oldest boat race in the world, the former headquarters of the old Greater London Council, and some very interesting pubs.

Covent Garden is an immensely popular area of central London, loved by many, and one of the capital’s main tourist destinations. Occupying a large part of London’s “Theatreland”, it has numerous other attractions, including opera, museums, restaurants, cafés, shopping, outdoor displays and, of course, great pubs.
